In absolute grading the reference point for assessment of students performance happens to be a

1) pre-determined standard

2) standard determined on the basis of normal probability curve

3) standard determined on the basis, of dividing equal percentage of cases from top to bottom

4) standard determined on the basis of arbitrarily chosen percentages of cases for various grading groups

In absolute grading, each point value is assigned a letter grade. This system mostly used in primary level. For example, the most common absolute grading assigns an A for points 90 to 100, a B for points 80 to 89, a C for points 70 to 79, a D for points 60 to 69, and an F for points 0 to 59. All of these points are from a test worth 100 points. It happens to be a standard determined on the basis of normal probability curve.
