An amount of money is to be distributed among A,B and C in the ratio of 3 : 1 : 5. The difference
between B's and C's shares is Rs.3,600. What is the total of A's and B's shares?

Suppose shares of A, B and C are Rs.3x, Rs.x and Rs.5x respectively.
By hypothesis, 5x - x = 3600 or 4x=3600
x=900
Hence, total of A and B's shares = Rs.3x + Rs.x
=Rs. 4x = Rs.(4 x 900) = Rs.3600
